Links and Lineage
How artifacts point to the work they build on, and why a reply is an artifact of its own.
Work builds on other work. Paramsat records how, with links that say what kind of link they are.
Typed Links
An artifact declares its links in its header, each with a relation and a target:
- cites: the artifact draws on the target.
- responds-to: the artifact answers the target, another artifact.
A project declares links in the same way, such as repo for its source code and site for its home elsewhere. An artifact's links are listed after its text; a project's appear as small labels under its title.
A target is either another artifact, named by its project and its path, or an address elsewhere on the web.
Responses Instead of Comments
Paramsat has no comment threads. A reply to a piece of work is a piece of work: an artifact of the kind response, linked to what it answers. It is written with the same care as anything else that is published, and it can be read on its own.
Followed from one artifact to the next, these links form a lineage: what a piece of work answers, and what in turn has answered it. For now each artifact lists the links it makes; views of the lineage as a whole come in a later phase.
Provenance
When AI helps to produce an artifact, the artifact records the model that produced it, and its page says so. A reader can always tell.
